Hackers had their way with the game over the past few years and naturally became more and more of a chore to play. I'm sad to see it go, but it really has become more or less abandoned at this point. I played for a little over an hour before the server shut down and I'll try to put up a video when that gets all encoded/uploaded, but that might be a while. And after 13 years at 4:00pm PDT on July 1st in the year of our Lord 2016, it is no more.Ĭlick here for the last 10 minutes of the game. It was game that often broken, usually unbalanced, and always a janky mess. Epic knife battles among teammates because you have nothing else to do while you lazily wait for an undefended base capture to complete. Battles that would last for hours over a single bridge with no side making progress. Hundreds of players being airdropped on top of a base to break a bases defense. There was the massive volcano of Searhus. It was a game of asymmetrical balance, with three different factions with different weapons and vehicles in a never ending war to attack and defend bases across sprawling landscapes.
It was a first person shooter that promised massive open worlds, hundreds of players fighting it out simultaneously with guns, tanks, and aircraft. Thirteen years ago a 17 year old ThreePi, flush with money from his part time job at a private golf course built his first computer to play a game unlike anything that had been seen before.
